August Monthly Steel Fact Sheet
The preliminary data released show that overall steel imports in August 2009 decreased 13.8 percent from July 2009. This change in the August total amount of steel imports resulted from decreases in several categories including carbon and alloy line pipe (-60.7%) and blooms, billets and slabs (-34.1%). Notable increases included carbon and alloy wire rod (90.5%), and hot rolled sheets (44.6%). August 2009 imports of steel mill products were down 66.5 percent compared to August 2008.
