June Monthly Steel Fact Sheet
The preliminary data released show that overall steel imports in June 2009 decreased 18 percent from May 2009. This change in the June total amount of steel imports was due to decreases in several categories including carbon and alloy oil country goods (-75.3%), galvanized hot-dipped sheets and strip (-36.4%), and hot-rolled sheets (-26.7%). Notable increases included carbon and alloy blooms, billets and slabs (295.7%) and wire rods (31.4%). June 2009 imports of steel mill products were down 68.9 percent compared to June 2008.
