Jordan M. Haas serves as the Director for the Office of Legislative & Intergovernmental Affairs (OLIA) at the International Trade Administration (ITA). As part of the Department of Commerce, ITA is charged with strengthening the global competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting exports, and ensuring fair trade practices. OLIA is the point of contact for Congress and state and local governments at ITA and regularly informs these stakeholders on current international trade matters and export opportunities.
Jordan joined the Obama Administration in 2009 as Deputy Assistant Administrator for Congressional and Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). During his three and a half years there he facilitated the development and passage of SBA legislative priorities. These included the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 and a long-term reauthorization of the Small Business Innovative Research program. He worked on the implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and helped to secure numerous extensions to provisions within that law that fostered more than $100 billion in lending to American small businesses during the economic downturn.
Jordan spent a number of years on Capitol Hill. He served as the Legislative Director for Congressman Henry R. Cuellar (D-TX) as well as serving on the Democratic Technology and Communications Committee in the U.S. Senate. He also worked for five years as Professional Staff on the US House of Representatives Committee on Small Business. While on the Committee staff, he provided both legislative and communications support to individual offices on small business issues and built coalitions within Congress that ensured legislative victories in the House of Representatives.
Jordan previously worked as a Legislative Director for Polsinelli Shughart PC advising clients on how Congress would impact their business. He has also worked for the Electronic Industries Alliance, which was an alliance of trade associations representing electronics manufacturers in the United States.A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Jordan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Communications from American University.
