The Manufacture America event in South Carolina will be held December 5, 2010 through December 7, 2010 at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Manufacturing contributed $25.2 billion to South Carolina’s overall economy in 2008, which was 16% of the total economic output of South Carolina that year.
In 2009, the manufacturing sector employed 213,800 workers, accounting for 12 percent of South Carolina’s total nonfarm employment. Average annual pay for manufacturing workers was $46,944 in 2009, compared to $36,755 for the overall workforce.
In 2008, more than one-quarter (28.9 percent) of all manufacturing workers in South Carolina depended on exports for their jobs (latest data available), which is the second highest figure in the United States. South Carolina’s export shipments of merchandise in 2009 totaled $16.5 billion, up $2.5 billion from 2005, the 15th largest growth among the 50 states.
