Thursday, May 8 - During remarks at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Under Secretary Christopher A. Padilla said China can be a more innovative society by being more open to foreign ideas, including global technology standards. "We know that China wants to become a more innovative society, but we also know that innovation cannot be mandated, centrally directed, or imposed from above." (remarks)

Department of Commerce Announces Inaugural “Invest in America” Week Invest In America Logo

Washington (May 2) – Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today announced the inaugural Invest in America Week, May 5-9, 2008, featuring events spanning the United States. Invest in America Week will highlight the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) for U.S. jobs and economic growth through a series of events in 18 states across the country. (more)
