Making Latin America and the Caribbean a More Equitable Society

Economic Growth, Education, and Corporate Social Responsibility

Spanish Version

There has been a marked effort to collaborate and share best practices with our hemispheric partners as a means to collectively improve the quality of life for our citizens, produce a highly-skilled workforce and labor pool, and create business climates conducive to healthy commercial development that helps the vast majority of the population and provides for consumers who can afford to purchase goods. This regional education conference facilitated a robust dialogue and a substantive exchange of ideas in preparation for the upcoming Sixth Summit of the Americas, scheduled to be held in Cartagena, Colombia on April 14-15, 2012.

Georgetown University, with support from the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State, hosted this regional education conference entitled, "Making Latin America and the Caribbean a More Equitable Society: Economic Growth, Education, and Corporate Social Responsibility" on March 12-13, 2012. The conference brought together leaders from throughout the Western Hemisphere to discuss strategies to improve our educational institutions so that our workforce is better prepared to compete in the global marketplace.

Over 50 universities and approximately 500 individuals including government officials; thought-leaders from academic institutions; pioneers in the business community; and representatives from civil society and international organizations participated in this event.
