2010 "E" Awards
On May 13th, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke presented 22 companies and organizations with the 2010 Presidential “E” Award and “E” Star Award for outstanding contributions to growing U.S. exports, strengthening the economy and creating American jobs. The Presidential “E” Awards are the highest U.S. government honor for increasing exports.
These are the first “E” and “E” Star Awards given out since President Obama announced the National Export Initiative, which aims to double American exports and support 2 million U.S. jobs by 2015.

The Bode Technology Group, Inc., Lorton, VA
Barry Watson, President, and Ed Huffine, Vice President of International Development, will accept the award. Bode Technology Group is a leading provider of forensic DNA testing technology. They currently export to 10 countries and their exports have increased six fold since 2006.
CECA Supply & Services, Inc., Houston, TX
Maher Touma, President, and Rami Touma, Vice President, will accept the award. CECA Supply & Services is a supplier of oil and gas drilling equipment and spare parts. They currently export to Algeria and Libya. Their exports have almost tripled since 2006.
Daavlin Distributing Company, Bryan, OH
David W. Swanson, President and CEO, and Sandrine Woolace, Vice President of International Operations, will accept the award. Daavlin Distributing Company is a manufacturer of phototherapeutic medical devices used to treat severe skin diseases. They have established distributors in 56 countries and have doubled their exports since 2006.
DemeTech Corporation, Miami, FL
Luis Arguello, Sr., CEO, and Luis Arguello, Jr., Vice President of Marketing, will accept the award. DemeTech Corporation is a manufacturer of surgical sutures using cutting-edge technology. They currently export to over 80 countries. Thirty-three of their 35 employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which make up 95 percent of their total sales. DemeTech’s exports have almost tripled since 2006.
EquipXp LC, Houston, TX
Vernon Darko, President, and Vanessa Darko, CEO, will accept the award. EquipXp, which opened in 2006, is an exporter of equipment for the oil and gas industries. They currently export to five countries and will expand into Latin America this year. All eight employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which make up 100 percent of their sales, and which have grown dramatically since 2007.
Matthews Studio Equipment, Inc. Burbank, CA
Ed Philips, President and CEO, and Robert Kulesh, Vice President Sales and Marketing, will accept the award. Matthews Studio Equipment is a manufacturer of hardware and lighting control devices for the motion picture and television production industries. They have grown from a small local company that serviced the Hollywood production industry into a major supplier of industry specialized hardware and lighting control devices. They currently export to 67 countries and enjoyed a 30 percent increase in exports since 2006.
Natural Organics, Melville, NY
Lee Albert Busch, Director International Business Development, and Suzanne Nicola Tenn, Director of Exports, will accept the award. Natural Organics is a manufacturer of nutritional supplements. They currently export to more than 120 countries and have seen their exports grow by 45 percent since 2006.
Oil Center Research International, LLC, Lafayette, LA
Brenda A. Stelly, President, and Joyce H. Roberts, Senior Account Manager, will accept the award. Oil Center Research is a distributor of industrial lubricants and sealants. They currently export to over 60 countries. All eight employees’ positions are attributable to exporting and 100 percent of the company’s sales are exports, which increased by over 30 percent since 2006.
Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc., San Leandro, CA
Steve Mills, Vice President – Logistics, and Phil Saracin (pronounced Sara sin), Director of Distribution Operations, will accept the award. Otis Spunkmeyer is a manufacturer of frozen gourmet cookie dough, ready-baked muffins and other bakery products. They currently export to North, Central and South America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. Almost 10 percent of their employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which have increased 24 percent since 2006.
Pharmaceutical Trade Services, Inc., Ocean Springs, MS
Teri Gautier, President & CEO, and Laura McLeod, Controller, will accept the award. Pharmaceutical Trade Services has established itself as a respected exporter of Named Patient medicines from the United States, supplying physician prescribed medicines to pharmacies and authorized healthcare facilities to over 30 countries All of the companies 28 employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which increased by 50 percent since 2006.
Polyguard Products, Inc., Ennis, TX
Nathan Muncaster, Global Business Development Director, and Shawn Eastham, Vice President Corrosion Products Group, will accept the award. Polyguard Products is a manufacturer of coatings to protect buildings, roads and pipelines. They currently export to over 20 countries and have seen their exports almost triple since 2006.
ProStuff LLC, Rockford, IL
Pierce Barker III, President, and Edmund Doherty, Jr., Vice President, will accept the award. ProStuff is a manufacturer of BMX and mountain bike race gates and other products for the racing industry. This small company has seven employees and all are attributable to exports, which have more than tripled since 2006.
Quantum Design, Inc., San Diego, CA
Gerald D. Daviess, President, and David M. Schultz, CFO, will accept the award. Quantum Design is a manufacturer of scientific instrumentation based on superconductor technology. They currently export to ten countries and have seen their exports nearly double since 2006.
RAD-CON, Inc., Cleveland, OH
Christopher J. Messina, Vice President Sales and Projects, and Michael W. McDonald, Vice President Operations, will accept the award. RAD-CON Inc. is a capital equipment company that provides furnaces for processing steel. All of their 19 employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which have grown by over 45 percent since 2006.
Slade, Inc., Statesville, NC
Ward A. Crosier, President, and Gregory W. Raty, will accept the award. Slade, Inc. is a manufacturer of highly specific devices and components to seal industrial fluids and gases. They currently export to 42 countries and 14 of their 27 employees’ positions are attributable to exports, which rose by 20 percent since 2006.
Vita-Mix Corporation, Cleveland, OH
Ms. Jodi L. Berg, President, and Mr. Anthony M. Ciepiel, Vice President Sales and Marketing, will accept the award. Vita-Mix manufactures high performance blending equipment for home and commercial use. They currently export to over 75 countries around the world and their commercial equipment is used by restaurant chains including MacDonalds, Burger King, and Jamba Juice. Their exports have increased by 80 percent since 2006.
WCCO Belting, Inc., Wahpeton, ND
Thomas D. Shorma, President & CEO, and Julie Shorma, will accept the award. ECCO Belting is a manufacturer of agricultural and industrial rubber belting and conveyer products. They are currently exporting to Canada, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia and have nearly tripled their exports since 2006.
The following organizations are awarded the President’s “E” Award for Export Service:
The Sacramento Regional Center for International Trade Development, Los Rios Community College District, Sacramento, CA
Brooks D. Ohlson, Director, and Katherine Albiani, Chair, Board of Trustees, Los Rios Community College District, will accept the award. The Sacramento Regional Center for International Trade Development (Sacramento CITD) is a state provider of international trade services and assistance for northern California companies. They work closely with U.S. Government agencies and are located with the U.S. Commercial. The Sacramento CITD is receiving the “E” Award for increased job retention and creation from 2005 to 2009 in California.
Saint Vincent College, Small Business Development Center (Saint Vincent College SBDC), Center for Global Competitiveness, Latrobe, PA
James Kunkel, Executive Director, and Victoria Gyenes (pronounced Jen is), Senior Market Analyst, will accept the award. Saint Vincent College SBDC provides specialized international trade assistance to businesses located in a seven-county Appalachian region in Pennsylvania. They are receiving the “E” Award for increasing the number of businesses that have received basic export training; consulting and research services; and training in trade documentation and regulations.
The following companies are awarded the President’s “E Star” Award :
Nationwide Equipment Company, Jacksonville, FL
Ed Kostenski, President, and Jean Bakkes (pronounced Jon Bak kus), Vice president of International Operations, will accept the award. Nationwide Equipment Company is a supplier of heavy construction Equipment and related consulting services, customer personnel training, parts support, and information services. They received the President’s “E” Award in 2001. Since that time they have quadrupled exports, which are now 99 percent of their sales. They currently export to several countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
NOW Health Group, Inc., Bloomingdale, IL
Al Powers, President, and Philip A. Pittsford, NOW International Sales Manager, will accept the award. NOW Health Group manufactures vitamins, herbs, supplements, personal health care items and health foods. NOW received the President’s “E” Award in 2007 and has since increased their exports by 40 percent and export markets by 22 countries.
Sauereisen, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA
Eric Sauereisen, President, and C. Karl Sauereisen, Vice President and Director, will accept the award. Sauereisen, Inc. is a manufacturer of chemical resistant linings and ceramic assembly compounds for the wastewater, power and chemical industries. They received the President’s “E” Award in 1978 and have sustained their export growth, more than doubling their exports since 2007.
